Genesis 40:1-23 The Cupbearer and the Baker

Genesis 40:1-23 The Cupbearer and the Baker

Pharaoh had a cupbearer and a baker that he became angry with, he put them in the same prison as Joseph.  Because Joseph was the the attended at the prison he was for them as well.  The cupbearer and the baker both had dreams on the same night.  They were both upset because there was no one to interpret the dream.  Joseph told them to tell him the dream and the Lord would help him interpret the dreams.

First the chief cupbearer told of his dream.  In the dream there was a vine with 3 branches that bloomed and it turned into grapes.  The cupbearer took a cup and squeezed the grapes into the cup.  He then gave the cup to Pharaoh. Joseph told the interpreting to be that he would be restored in 3 day to his old position.  Joseph asked the cupbearer to remember him and get him out of prison.

Next the baker told of his dream.  He saw that the other interpretation was good so he told Joseph of his dream.  He had 3 baskets on his head. In the baskets were baked goods for Pharaoh but birds came and ate the baked goods in the baskets.  Joseph told him that the dream meant, the 3 baskets were 3 days.  Within 3 days Pharaoh will come and you will be hung from a tree and birds will come and eat off your skins.

Three days later was Pharaoh's birthday and he had a special dinner for all of his officials.  During the meal he restored the cupbearer and hung the baker just as Joseph had said.  The chief cupbearer forgot about Joseph..
