Genesis 35:1-15 Jacob Returns to Bethel
God told Jacob to go to Bethel and settle there. He also told him to build an altar. Jacob told all in his household and all that were with him to get read of any foreign gods, purify yourselves and change your clothes. All those with him have Jacob their foreign gods and the earrings out of their ears. Jacob took it all and buried in under the oak at Shechem.
So they headed towards Bethel. God made it so that no one would bother them on their journey. When they got to Bethel Jacob built an altar and named the place El Bethel. Jacob also set up a stone pillar where God originally talked to him and named it Bethel.
