Genesis 24:1-66 Isaac and Rebekah

 Genesis 24:1-66 Isaac and Rebekah

Abraham made his servant promises he would not get a wife for his son from the Canaanites but from his country and his relatives. Abraham told him to to take Isaac back to his land because God promised this land for him and his generations to come. If the woman does not want to come back he servant would be released of the oath.

The servant left with 10 camels along with all kinds of goods. He had the camels kneel down near the well outside the town. He prayed:

Genesis 24:12-14

Then he prayed, “O LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. May it be that when I say to a girl, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’–let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

And I love the next verse:

Genesis 24:15

Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor.

Before he finished his prayer God had already answered, God knew what he was going to ask and how He was going to answer it.

Rebekah was family, beautiful and a virgin. She offered a drink to and also to his camels. He gave her a nose ring and two  bracelets. And asked her if there was room to stay the night. And she said there was plenty of room. The servant worship the lord for he knew this was the answer and the one he was looking for.

Laban met the servant and brought him back to the house to stay. They brought food out for him and the men that come with him. But first the servant wanted to tell him why he was there. So he told him of Abraham and all that had happened.

Laban and Bethuel old him to take Rebekah and go. The servant worshipped God at this. The sevant gave gifts to Rebekah, her brother and mother. So they left the next morning.

Isaac was in the field when Rebekah arrived. Isaac married her and was comforted after his mothers death.
