Genesis 27:1-28:9 Jacob gets Isaac's Blessing

Genesis 27:1-28:9 Jacob gets Isaac's Blessing

Isaac was getting old and was having a hard time seeing. He called for Esau. He told him to go hunt and make him food. He wanted to bless Esau before he died.

Rebekah heard Isaac talking to Esau. While Esau was hunting Rebekah told Jacob to go to the flock and bring 2 young goats. Then she would prepare a savory dish for Isaac. Jacob recognized that his brother was hairy unlike himself. He was afraid Isaac would give him a curse instead of a blessing. Rebekah told Jacob to just listen to her and do what she asks.

When Jacob returned Rebekah made isaacs favor food. Rebekah had him put on Esau clothing. She took the skins of the goats and put it on Jacobs hands and the smooth part of his neck.

Jacob went into his father, Isaac, pretending he was Esau.  Jacob was very not sure he was Esau. Isaac asked how he got him food so quickly. And then he asked to feel to see if he was truly Esau. He still was not sure it was Esau but he ate and drank what Jacob brought him.  He then asked him to come close and kiss him. When Jacob did as he was asked he smelled him and because he was in Esau clothing he believed it was him and blessed him.

Genesis 27:27-29

So he went to him and kissed him . When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said,

“Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.

May God give you of heaven’s dew and of earth’s richness–

an abundance of grain and new wine.

May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you.

Be lord over your brothers,

and may the sons of your mother bow down to you.

May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.”

Jacob left after receiving the blessing from Isaac.

Esau returned home with the game he hunted and prepared it for his father. He went into his father. Jacob was angry and asked who came in that he had already blessed. Esau was upset and asked him to bless him. Esau was so mad that he said that he was going to kill his brother after his father died.

Rebekah sent Jacob away to Haran. He was to stay away until his brother was no longer angry
