Genesis 26:1-35 Isaac and Abimelech

Genesis 26:1-35 Isaac and Abimelech

Read Genesis 26:1-35 here

There was a famine. In a dream the Lord told Isaac to stay in the land he told him. The Lord reminded Isaac of the promise he made to his father.  Isaac stayed in Gerar.

Isaac just as his father said his wife was his sister. The king caught Isaac caressing his wife. The king asked him why he did this and he said it was because she was beautiful and was afraid of what they would. Abimelech made it so that if the did anything to Isaac or Rebekah they would be put to death.

God blessed Isaac and he became very wealthy. This  made the Philistines envy and so they plugged up Abraham’s wells. The king ask Isaac to move away. So he moved to the valley. He unplugged the wells and gave them the same name as his father had gave them. Issac dug 3 wells before no one quarreled over who’s the well were.

Isaac moved again:

Genesis 26:23-24

From there he went up to Beersheba. That night the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

Abimelech, his personal adviser and commander of his forces came and made a treaty with Isaac.

Esau was married at 40 to Judith and also Basemath. They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.
