Exodus 5:1-21 Bricks without Straw

 Exodus 5:1-21 Bricks without Straw

Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him to let their people go so they could go worship their Lord.  This was a new pharaoh one that did not know Abraham, Isaac or Jacob's God.  He said he would not let Israel go. Moses warned pharaoh that if he did not let them go on their three day journey to worship their God then there would be plagues or the sword. Pharaoh was more concerned about the Hebrew people doing their work. He did not want to stop their work.  Pharaoh also that day told those who were in charge to not give the Hebrew people straw anymore.  They were to get straw on their own.  The Hebrew people were still required to make the same amount of bricks each day as they had before the straw was taken away.

Exodus 5:8-9

But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ Make the work harder for the men so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.”

When the Isrealites were not able to make the same amount of brick the Israelite foremen were beaten. The foremen went to pharaoh and asked why he was treating them so badly.  Pharaoh called them lazy because they wanted to go worship God. Pharaoh would not budge and still required them to get straw and make as many bricks as they did before.  The foremen were not happy with Moses and Aaron.
