Exodus 7:1-8 Water from the Rock

Exodus 17:1-8 Water from the Rock

The Israelites left from the Desert of Sin and when from city to another as God commanded. When they stopped at Rephidim there was no water to drink.  Once again that demanded something of Moses, water.  And then they started to grumble again.

Exodus 17:3

But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?”

Moses asked the Lord what he should do.  The Lord told him to take some of the elders and walk ahead of the others.  He was to take his staff in his hand and strike the rock of Horeb.  This was to bring water from the rock.

Exodus 17:7

And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
