Exodus 19:1- 25 At Mount Sinai

Exodus 19:1- 25 At Mount Sinai

Exactly 3 month for when the Israelites had left Egypt they came to the Desert of Sinai.  The Israelites set up their camp right in front of Mount Sinai.

The Lord told Moses to tell the people that if they obey him fully they will be his treasured possession.  He also added that the whole world was his.  Moses went and told the people what the Lord had said.

Exodus 19:8

The people all responded together, “We will do everything the LORD has said.” So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.

Moses went back and told the Lord what the people had said.  The Lord told Moses to have the people to consecrate themselves for 3 days including washing their clothing and on the 3rd day because the Lord was to come down on Mount Sinai. The people were not to go up the mountain or even put their foot on the mountain.  If they did they would die.  Not even the animals were to go up the mount.  There would be a long blast of a ram’s horn and this would be a sight that it was safe to go up the mountain again.  They people did as Moses told them.

On the third say the Lord came as fire on the Mount of Sinai which caused a large amount of smoke to cover the Mountain.  There was thunder and lightning and a very loud trumpet sound.  This made the people afraid.

Exodus 19:18-19

Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently, and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Then Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him.

The Lord called Moses up to the mountain.  Moses did as the Lord told him to do.  The Lord told Moses to go get Aaron and warn the people to not force there way up the mountain.
