Exodus 16:1-36 Manna and Quail

 Exodus 16:1-36  Manna and Quail

Chapter 16 once again start out with the Israelites grumbling.

Exodus 16:3

The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the LORD’S hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

God responded with bread, God was going to rain down bread each day for the people to collect.  They were to only take what they needed for that day, nothing was to be left overnight.  On the sixth day they should gather twice as much.  God also was going to send quail for them to eat.

So the next day there was bread that came down and quail also fell from the sky.  Moses told them how much to take but some took more than they should. The extra that was kept the next day was filled with maggots and began to smell.  Moses was angry with those who did not listen.  Moses made sure they keep the Sabbath day by collecting and cooking what they need for the sabbath day.  Some did not listen and went to gather on the seventh day and found nothing to collect.

Exodus 16:28-30

Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instructions? Bear in mind that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out.” So the people rested on the seventh day.

The people called the bread manna.  God had them keep some so they could tell the generations to come about what had God done.
