 Exodus 29:1- 46 Consecration of the Priests






In this passage there are more detail of the consecration of the priests.  


First they were to take a young bull and two rams that are without imperfections.  Also they were to make bread and cake without yeast. Put the cake and bread and put it in a basket to go along with the bull and the two rams. Aaron and his sons were to be washed with water. Next they are to be dressed in the Priestly Garments and anointed on their heads with oil. 


Aaron and his sons where to put their hands on the bull and then it was to be slaughtered.  The blood of the bull was to be put on the horns of the altar and the rest was to be poured on the altar. The following items were to be burned on the altar:


  1. The fat around the inner parts

  2. The covering of the liver

  3. Both kidney with the fat on them


The rest of the bull was to be burned outside of camp as a sin offered.  


One of the ram Aaron and her sons are to put their hands on it and then it was to be slaughtered.  The blood is the be put on all sides of the altar.  The following parts are to be wash:


  1. Inner parts

  2. Legs


The whole ram is to be burn on the altar.  


Exodus 29:18

Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the LORD, a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire.


The second ram Aaron and his sons were to put their hands on its head, than it is to be slaughtered.  They were to take some of the blood and to it on 


  1. The right lobes of Aaron and his sons ears. 

  2. Their thumbs of their right hand

  3. Their big toes of their right feet


Then they are to sprinkle the altar on all sides. Finally they are to sprinkle blood and anointing oil on Aaron and his sons and their garments.  After this Aaron and his sons will be consecrated along with their garments.  


This what they should do with the ram:


  1. The fat

  2. The fat tail 

  3. The fat around the inner parts

  4. The covering of the liver

  5. Both kidneys with the fat on them

  6. Right thigh


And for the basket of bread


  1. Take a loaf

  2. Cake made with oil

  3. Wafer


Aaron and his sons were to hold the items and wave them as before the Lord.  This is a wave offering. Then the items should be burnt on the altar. After that they are to take the breast of the ram and wave it as an offering after this it is for them to share.  


The following part are for Aaron and his sons to share:


  1. The breast

  2. The other thigh


Aaron's garments are to be passed down to his children and their children.  Those who are to succeed him as priests are to wear them for 7 days.  They are to take the rams for the ordination and cook the meat.  They are to eat the meat and the bread, but no one else should eat them.   If there is anything left they are to burn it.  


They were to do this for 7 days. 


Exodus 29:37

For seven days make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will be most holy, and whatever touches it will be holy.


They were to offer on the altar 2 lambs each day, one in the morning and one at night. In the morning the lamb should also be flour, oil, and wine.  The wine was for a drink offering.  In the evening the same should be offered.  


Exodus 29:42-46

“For the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD. There I will meet you and speak to you; there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory.  “So I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. They will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.
